Sending Some Sunny Yellow Your Way

 via picklee.com

Ok so I've had enough of this extremely cold winter... I need spring. I'm guessing everyone out there who lives in North America is feeling the same way so I thought I'd cheer (and warm) everyone up with a little bit of yellow.  To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of yellow.  I like it in small amounts.   It can really make an interior come to life by just adding a little bit.  Like painting the inside of the front door yellow or adding a yellow Eames armchair to a desk.

Love the yellow industrial chairs above with the barnboard floors and white walls.

And what a difference these pillows make to this bedroom.  They just add the right amount of colour and freshness to the space.

How sweet is this yellow couch table - no doubt it was a piece of junk before Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper did her magic and gave it a coat of yellow paint.

And here are some yellow flowers for you.

If you want to see more, you can follow me on Pinterest and see what else I'm pinning on my yellow board.
Hang in there...Spring is almost here!!!

My Fashion Picks - 2015 Oscars

 Reese Witherspoon wearing Tom Ford

I thought Reese Witherspoon looked absolutely stunning in Tom Ford.  Her dress, hair and makeup were bang on.  This was definitely my fave.  Here are the other ones I thought stood out.

 Felicity Jones wearing Alexander McQueen

Cate Blanchett wearing Maison Margiela

Rene Russo wearing J. Mendel

 Oprah Winfrey wearing Vera Wang

Sienna Miller wearing Oscar de La Renta

Lupita Nyong'o wearing Calvin Klein

Lupita's dress wouldn't look good on too many people, but I thought it looked stunning on her.  It had an exotic element with all the pearls (6,000 to be exact), which is totally her.  I loved the emerald green dress worn by Scarlett Johansson, but would have loved it more without the earrings and the necklace.

And just so I don't forget the men... I loved this midnight blue tux with black lapels worn by Eddie Redmayne.   Also, check out his shoes... they look like velvet - great look!

Contemplating Black Stairs

 via 123abc.tumblr.com

So this is what I'm thinking of doing...painting my stairs black.  I first got the inspiration last year when I fell in love with this house.  I've lived with light hardwood for five years now and although they are hardwood, I've never liked the colour.  I've actually never liked the more traditional handrail either so this would be a relatively quick and easy fix.  (Well maybe not that easy but relatively quick).  The first year I was here I painted the handrail a very dark grey to hide it a little, and this year I removed the runner that was going up the stairs. I always say you should make your space the best you can with what you have and that it should reflect you.  But the stager in me always thinks I should keep my space open to appeal to as many people as possible just in case I have to sell... so I'm a little torn.  (Especially since this would be permanent).

One of the biggest issues will be finding the right paint that will withstand dog and people traffic.  I recently heard about this amazing eco-friendly paint called Fusion Mineral Paint.  It's supposed to be fantastic for furniture and they even have a special sealer for high traffic areas like stairs and cupboards.  The issue for me is that the colours come premixed.  They have a grey and a jet black but I want an almost black like Off Black by Farrow & Ball.  If I go with this type of paint I'll have to buy the black and white and then mix it myself to get the right colour (which I do all the time anyway so that doesn't scare me).

I'll keep you posted on this...still have to convince a certain someone, and find the time when no dog or kids are around for like 12 hours. Wish me luck.

Capturing January

Po was right by my side while I started the year purging... I've been here 5 years and I can't believe how much I have to purge.  Oh ya, and what is it about January that makes me move every piece of furniture in the house?  I've switched three rooms around (more on that in a later post).   We also registered my son for college this month, so that's a whole new thing for us.  How is that?  Can't believe he's at this stage in life.  We took a little trip to Mississauga, ON and checked out Metalworks Institute...Mississauga has  the coolest skyline.

I managed to get the photos above and below while driving by...don't worry, I wasn't the one driving.

The pic above and below are from Chatham, ON.  The steeples above were beautiful!

And on one of the coldest but sunniest days last month, I captured this beautiful sunlight in my daughter's room.  The disco ball reflecting light made it magical!
